Raoul De Keyser

Born 1930 in Deinze (BE)
Died 2012 in Deinze (BE)

Raoul De Keyser attempts to break down the boundaries of painting within painting, taking steps away from the dead-end situation of monochrome painting. He does not develop content in a cross-border diversity of media, but rather takes the image field of traditional painting as the smallest or largest possible field of discussion, not as a step backwards or a collection of art-historical quotations, but as a conscious restriction for substantial further development.

De Keyser's works can be compared to a living language whose sound fascinates and whose expressiveness stimulates, but where one constantly notices that the rules of grammar are difficult to master. (Bart Cassiman)
