Silvie Aigner talks about the exhibition.

The exhibition, which was initiated by Julie Hayward and curated for kunsthaus muerz, shows objects and sculptures by a total of 18 female artists from two generations who, as the title implies, work primarily in the medium of sculpture and object art - from pioneers such as Marianne Maderna and Meina Schellander to young positions such as Angelika Loderer, Liesl Raff, Judith Fegerl and Sophie Hirsch. In consultation with the artists, Julie Hayward has selected one or two works that are representative of each artist's oeuvre. Through dialogue with the artists, a fixed idea of an exhibition has evolved into an organically grown overall picture.

Although the respective approaches to the medium are very different, the works - across the generations - show similarities in form and content. For example, in the reinterpretation of organic and biomorphic forms, in the reference to the body, in the diverse aspects of constructive design, in the connection to science and technology, in the emphasis on the material, or in the inclusion of writing and text. The artists are no longer interested in creating something for a pedestal, as Kurt Beers, editor of the guidebook 100 Sculptors of Tomorrow published in 2019, explained, but in finding multi-layered answers.
