dérive – Journal of Urban Research celebrates a quarter-century of urban studies with an exhibition spread across the city.
The engagement with urban space that characterizes dérive has, from the very beginning, encompassed not only research from the fields of science and theory but also from the realm of art. 25 Perspectives on City and Space—marking 25 years of dérive—present a cross-section of these artistic explorations, which have been collected in the over 100 issues of dérive. Spread across selected self-managed off-spaces in Vienna’s 2nd, 5th, and 6th districts, the contributions invite visitors on a “dérive” through the city, exploring themes such as history and memory (SUPER, Mariahilf District Museum), landscape and city (FLUCC), alternative geographies and the exploration of urban contexts (hoast and Sehsaal), the spheres of work (Size Matters), or activism and the appropriation of public space (Sussudio and Ve.Sch).
