Július Koller

Antihappening

  • The Mayor Gallery, London (UK)
  • 15.09.–31.10.2025

Antihappening, an exhibition of works by Július Koller (b. 1939 Pieštany, Slovakia – d. 2007 Bratislava, Slovakia), one of the most enigmatic figures of post-war conceptualism. Working in former Czechoslovakia under Soviet occupation, Koller developed a subversive visual language grounded in absurdity, play, and resistance, most notably through his Antihappenings and the U.F.O. (Universal Futurological Operations) series. Eschewing grand gestures, he turned everyday actions and symbols into quietly radical interventions. This exhibition brings together rarely seen works from the 1960s to the 2000s, revealing a practice that was both deeply personal and profoundly political.
