Galerie Martin Janda is excited to participate at Art Collaboration Kyoto 2025.
In the joint booth with Taka Ishii Gallery, Galerie Martin Janda will present works by Roman Ondak (*1966, lives and works in Bratislava, Slovakia). Ondak has developed a substantial body of work that reroutes everyday objects and experiences. Like an ethnographer, hedelves into his own personal history and the archive of human memory. By using unpretentious objects from everyday life, he recontextualises them and thus opens a space for new interpretations. “Unlike in the refined discourse around readymades, which would see these humble objects ‘elevated to the status of art’, Ondak’s found objects refuse to go willingly. They cling to the traces of their former utility with an awkwardness that scratches at our ability to perceive them within the exhibition context.” (Kate Sutton) Ondak’s work often evolves from a performative conception and consists of sculpture, installation, photography, drawing and performance. His medium is the everyday and society’s sets of expectations, assumptions, automatisms and projections that shape our perception of reality.
