The new exhibition at Frac Franche-Comté is devoted to Roman Signer. Born in Switzerland in 1938, in a Europe suffering the furore of a war that marked him deeply, the artist is known worldwide for actions in which he uses explosives and also natural phenomena such as wind or water to make ‘micro-shows or non-events’: furtive but nevertheless magical instants of deflagrations, falls or flights that he records using photography or video and that are prolonged in the form of sculptures and installations. The whole participates in a body of work that the artist calls a ‘sculpture of time’. Centred on several pre-2020 works, and especially Klavier (2010) that recently joined the Frac collections, and videos of actions tracing the artist’s career, the exhibition Tombé du ciel assembles numerous unseen works in a process leading to the transformation of [...]
