Jakob Kolding: 20 Propositions

20 Propositions is a series of exhibitions, performances and screenings taking place over the summer in the Salzburger Kunstverein. Each project phase has its own opening event. The Sunset Kino, Austria’s only outdoor avant-garde cinema, includes seven screenings of contemporary video and film.

Curated by Séamus Kealy, 20 Propositions is produced in homage to the exhibition 40 Days 20 Exhibitions, held 20 years ago in the Salzburger Kunstverein, and curated by the director then, Hildegund Amanshauser. This new version takes a different format but arises out a spirit of flux and engagement as the earlier exhibition had. 20 Propositions is also in collaboration with the Salzburg International Summer Academy, which Hildegund Amanshauser currently directs. 20 Propositions includes solo exhibitions, screenings and performances by local, national and international artists, including four Summer Academy Artists, and [...]

Jakob Kolding: Cool, calm and collected

Cool, Calm and Collected is a song by the Rolling Stones about being suavely self-assured, but the expression is also used to describe a cool, Scandinavian aesthetic. The phrase serves as the title of this special exhibition featuring Danish contemporary artists who, in spite of their different approaches, all actively engage with an aesthetically stringent, poetic and cool formal idiom.

Overall, the exhibition showcases the aestheticizing tendency evident in many Danish artists over the course of the last fifteen years. At the same time the exhibition wishes to demonstrate the great diversity of their work, partly in their choice of materials and media, but also in the themes selected. For even though an overall aesthetic tendency seems to dominate the Danish art scene, the alluring exteriors of the art often hide surprisingly subversive, conceptual or critical content seething beneath the surface.

fifteenminutes – Thomas Trummer on Jakob Kolding

Jakob Kolding, From the Earth to the Moon, 2017

In a 15 minute lecture on the occasion of the exhibition Mistaking the Moon for a Ball, director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz Thomas Trummer will speak about the works of Danish artist Jakob Kolding.

The talk will be held in German.
