The theme of Aichi Triennale 2022, “STILL ALIVE,” was inspired by a series of works entitled I Am Still Alive by the Aichi-born conceptual artist On Kawara, who continually dispatched the fact of his own existence during his lifetime using telegrams starting in the 1970s. This international art festival to be held in 2022 will offer a multi-dimensional interpretation of the words “STILL ALIVE,” revisiting the origins and sources of contemporary art while also focusing on the gaps between domains that have come to be classed according to fixed categories, all the while shuttling back and forth between the past, present, and future. Through the medium of art, Aichi Triennale 2022 promises encounters with uncertainty, the unknown, a diversity of values, and overwhelming beauty, while also serving as an opportunity for thinking about how we can create an [...]

143 days after the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion in Ukraine, the PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv, Ukraine) opens again on July 17th with When Faith Moves Mountains. The major group exhibition with over 45 artists, presented in partnership with, and thanks to M HKA and the Flemish Government will put the focus on Ukraine as a country open to the world and will celebrate its deep roots and relation to Europe.

The exhibition When Faith Moves Mountains brings together works chosen from M HKA/the collection of the Flemish Community, because of their emancipatory and empowering nature. More than 40 works from international artists are being lent. Even though the collection cannot be insured to any damages of war, M HKA and the Flemish Government chose to share resources and invest a significant part of their heritage into [...]

The Visual Arts Center of Coimbra (CAV) opened the exhibition Phantasmagoria by Hugo Canoilas.

"With training in painting, the artist has been examining the place of this artistic discipline, its perception by the viewer, and how much the exercise of its permanent mutation—making use of a vast array of languages and supports which includes many v" this is also the production of objects — can unfold in the form of facilities that give way to the creation of meaning constellations. Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler: Collaborations

Exhibition view Collaborations, Christine Hohenbüchler, Irene Hohenbüchler, Kommunikationsmöbel, 1991–1997, Alison Knowles, Do You Remember (for Emmett Williams), 1968, Art & Language, Now They Are Elegant Again, 2002, Photo: Oliver Ottenschläger, © mumok

Departing from the focuses of the mumok collections on the avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s as well as conceptual and socio-analytic approaches in contemporary art, the exhibition Collaborations examines diverse strategies of collective authorship. The exhibition builds a bridge spanning from the smallest to the largest unit of togetherness: from the internal ties of the collective to a particular constellation of the connective, from the artist duo to society—and last but not least, from the love affair to the interconnectedness of life.

The exhibition investigates how artistic models of a “we” can be cultivated for life together as a society: What does collaboration mean in the twenty-first century when fundamental social structures continue to dissolve? How have artists responded to such social and political developments over the decades and what is their position today?

The Museum der Moderne oversees an own extensive collection as well as the Federal Government’s Photography Collection, the Generali Foundation Collection, and the art collection of the State of Salzburg. The museum’s task is to preserve the collections entrusted to it according to conservational principles, to expand its holdings, to make these accessible to scholarship, and to exhibit them to the public. The museum is always guided by strategic considerations when adding to its holdings. It might desire to fill in gaps in its collection in a meaningful way, to expand an existing group of works, or to establish new focal points for its collection.

It is rare for a museum’s collecting policy to be discussed in public. Significant policy decisions are made behind the scenes by the director of the museum in consultation with the curators of its collections. This is why the Museum der Moderne Salzburg has decided to organize a large-scale exhibition of its [...]
