Nilbar Güres: colony

Abud Efendi Mansion, Sultanahmet, 23.12.2017–03.02.2018

colony is a group exhibition that will be held at Abud Efendi Konağı in Istanbul between the dates 23 December 2017 - 3 February 2018. Fostered by the globally immediate socio-political juncture, artistic production, and academic discourse, colony brings the definition of “human” into question. Engaging critically with the means of making knowledge, science, technology, and politics, the exhibition questions that which privileges the human species by attributing a prioritised conception of existence to mankind. Through the agency of intimating a body and body-beings, colony gathers together artistic inquiries that reconsider constructed dichotomies such as human/non-human, nature/culture, and organic/synthetic.

Across moralism(s) and between female-male morphologies fixed in procreation, colony explores the constitutive ways in which nature’s sanctions of normativity operate. Interfaced with [...]

Allen Ruppersberg: Who’s Afraid of the New Now?

New Museum, 03.12.2017

Allen Ruppersberg: Who’s Afraid of the New Now?

Allen Ruppersberg, Who’s Afraid of the New Now?, from the series Preview Suite, 1988

40 Artists in Dialogue

Borrowing its title from a work of the same name by Allen Ruppersberg—who had his first New York survey at the New Museum in 1985—the event features a selection of public conversations with artists whose exhibitions, works, and interventions have shaped and transformed the identity and history of the New Museum. Engaging in dialogue with each other, the forty artists will discuss an array of topics related to their practice, their history with the Museum, and beyond.
The Museum is offering free admission for all visitors and extended museum hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 2 and 3. The Museum will also reinstall Bruce Nauman’s iconic video No, No New Museum (Clown Torture Series) (1987) in the Museum’s window, just as the work was originally presented during Nauman’s solo exhibition at the Museum in 1987.

Alessandro Balteo-Yazbeck: Illuminations III: Activism/Chapter:Venezuela

Henrique Faria Fine Art & Miami Biennale, 03.12.2017–19.02.2018

Alessandro Balteo-Yazbeck: Illuminations III: Activism/Chapter:Venezuela

Henrique Faria Fine Art and Miami Biennale are pleased to present Illuminations III: Activism / Chapter: Venezuela, a group exhibition featuring works by Venezuelan artists from the 1970s through the present day that deal explicitly with the political, economic and social issues that have been slowly and steadily bringing the country to the brink of collapse. Continuing on with Miami Biennale’s Illuminations series of exhibitions, this show examines what occurs in the obscuration of light, when a country must reckon with its utter dissolution into darkness as the glimmers of a brighter past fade further away into history and collective memory. But even in times of extreme adversity throughout history, the human capacity to reflect and the will to create have always found ways to persevere, and the current situation in Venezuela cannot and will not prove to be an exception. For where cracks in the shroud of totalitarianism and censorship exist, [...]
