Objects in the Mirror is the project conceived by Roman Ondak for the architectural container of Base and for the public who frequents that context. On this occasion, his displacement and regenerative approach focuses on the presence of the glass door and the window of the place. These two elements strongly characterize the space, making it visually accessible to the observer from outside and inside, and vice versa, leaving it at a safe distance beyond the glass at the same time. The title, as specified by the artist himself, derives from “Objects in the Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear”. This is the phrase that in some countries must, by law, be engraved on the rear-view mirrors of cars. The safety warning urges the driver to pay attention to the fact that such a convex mirror makes the objects reflected in it look smaller. The artist, creates a surreal and concrete, immaterial and engaging situation, focused on the re-formulation of the interactive [...]
Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, presents I AM THE MOUTH with works from Art Collection Telekom. The corporate Art Collection Telekom was initiated by Deutsche Telekom in 2010 and comprises today of some 200 art works by about 60 artists from around 15 countries. The collection has a clear focus on contemporary art from Central and Eastern European countries.
The title of the exhibition I AM THE MOUTH is from a video work by Polish artist Agnieszka Polska. It expresses the characteristic qualities of contemporary art from a region in Europe, which is searching for identity in the global context. These voices are looking for new social and political structures, for a democratic and civic exchange by balancing opposing ideas and interests.
The artworks in the exhibition are the mouth of a whole generation that wants to shape its own future and take responsibility for it. The works are telling the stories, concerns, hopes and visions of [...]
Organised by Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the “Being Modern: MoMA in Paris” draws together a superb and far-reaching representation of the highly important artworks that MoMA has acquired since its founding in 1929. Presented from 11 October 2017 to 5 March 2018, the exhibition includes masterworks ranging from the birth of modern art through trends and styles such as American abstraction, Pop art and Minimalism to the most contemporary art.
A multidisciplinary selection of 200 works will occupy the whole of the Fondation’s building. The works are drawn from all six of the MoMA’s curatorial departments, reflecting the history of the institution and the choices it had made in building its collecting.
The exhibition responds to two objectives: to show a significant body of MoMA’s great collection in Paris, and to evoke the more fluid and interdisciplinary installations that visitors to MoMA [...]
Alles geschieht auf Reisen zum ersten Mal.
(Matthias Politycki 2017)
Private Choices lifts the veil on a significant aspect of art: contemporary art collections and its initiators, the art lovers. The latter play an increasingly important role in the constantly growing art world and, in the era of disproportionate commercialisation and globalisation of the art market, these passionate people invest time and money in contemporary creation, often lavishly.
This project sheds light on 11 Brussels collections including works by Belgian and international artists, both confirmed and emerging, in an attempt at showcasing the specificity of each one. Through a selection process carried out hand in hand with the collectors, we discover a facet of their vision of art and life.
Carine Fol, art director at the CENTRALE and curator of the Private Choices show confides:
“I experienced a fascinating journey as I went on the discovery of works, collections and the many fascinating personalities behind them. From kitchen [...]
