Some of the world’s currently most renowned artists will during summer 2013 show their works at Havremagasinet. The exhibition “Elemental” participating artists from Iceland, the USA, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. Curator is Gregory Volk from New York. Assistant curator is Birta Gudjonsdottir.
Participating artists: Birgir Andrésson, Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, Hildur Bjarnadóttir, Margrét H. Blöndal, Kria Brekkan, Olafur Eliasson, Maria Friberg, Kristján Gudmundsson, Roni Horn, Joan Jonas, Tumi Magnússon, Ragna Róbertsdóttir, Karin Sander, Roman Signer, Ívar Valgardsson and Lawrence Weiner.
Lawrence Weiner is one of the central figures in the development of conceptual art that started in the U.S. in the 1960s. Olafur Eliasson is one of the world’s currently most famous artists. Kria Brekkan is besides artist also a musician and used to work with Björk. Kria Brekkan will make a performance in the exhibition and also have an outdoor concert. Roni Horn and Roman Signer are other world famous artists.
Iceland and its landscape has for decades influenced many internationally renowned artists. Several of these, each with its complex relationship with Iceland, is participating in these exhibition.
Elemental contains 16 selected Icelandic and international artists with artwork related to the Icelandic. Island with its special and “elementary” forces of nature; seismic activity, volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs, powerful rivers and the huge ocean.
The works on display has a span from the absolute minimalistic to the expansive maximum. From ancient power to the force of nature.
