Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck: When Works Leave the Page

ARTMargins, 28.04.–06.05.2013

Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck: When Works Leave the Page

Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck, Chronoscope, 1951, 11pm, 2011 (video still)

Acting as curators, the editors take the artists' projects out of the printed pages of the journal and materialize them in a physical space of 392Rmeil393, a historical building in Beirut’s Achrafieh district. The small exhibit consists of enlarged printed texts and photographs of Aras Ozgun’sBlack Sea, a site where nature intersects with erased histories and unspoken politics; Honza Zamojski shows an installation that consists of conceptual, audio and visual notes from a Transatlantic journey; Media Farzin and Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck video installation Chronoscope, 1951, 11pm engaging Cold-War politics is screened in the garden; and Kasper Kovitz presents a famous artists' course taught to the nuns of a convent in the form of large prints. The exhibition engages with artists' works spatially, while going beyond the two-dimensional and virtual working context in which the editorial cooperation unfolds.

Gabriel Sierra: Thus Far

Peephole, 22.05.–13.07.2013

Gabriel Sierra: Thus Far

Gabriel Sierra’s research is based on exercises of representation which come from
reflections on the language of things and the principles that govern architecture, in
order to suggest a way of rethinking our idea of space and time. Exploring the
borderlines of art, architecture and design, all of Sierra’s work turns on the attempt to
interpret a place by starting with the programmatic transformation of its constituent
parts, to manipulate the nature of objects by deconstructing their functions, to
investigate the temporal logics of everyday existence.
Most of his works involve interventions that alter the display space by redefining its
architectural dynamics and challenging our way of interacting with them. Each project
has to do with the speci!cities of its context, which Sierra takes over in order to
translate it into experiments of temporary and fantastic architecture. Time is a concept
to which the artist [...]

Jakob Kolding: Ein ahnungsloser Traum vom Park. Phase 2: 2013

Museum Abteiberg, 26.05.–21.07.2013

Július Koller: YOU

MOSTYN, 27.04.–07.07.2013

Július Koller: YOU

Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Aurélien Froment, Jeppe Hein, Július Koller and Rivane Neuenschwander.

‘YOU’ will engage the viewer in ways that they may not be accustomed to in relation to their experience of artworks and exhibitions to date. As it responds to the visitor, and is subject to perpetual change and re-order in accordance to their activity, it will challenge conventional codes of behaviour in the context of a gallery space.

While the exhibition considers the art historical background of the relationship between artwork and viewer, and its growing status over time, it asks, how do these works engage and forge relationships with audiences in distinctively different ways from any other works of art? How is the role of the viewer elevated and placed into the centre uniquely? Through exhibiting artworks that engender such questions, ‘YOU’ hopes to build an alliance between viewer, artwork and MOSTYN itself.

In addition to [...]
